The Putnam County Sheriff's Office reported that after one of their officers spotted the two speeding cars on March 4 around 2:45 a.m., it took help from the New York State Police and the Brewster Police Department before both were stopped and a 20-year-old Danbury resident was in cuffs.
According to the sheriff's office, Alex J. Cardenas-Tacuri had fled Connecticut after stealing items from several unlocked cars.
The occupant of the other vehicle was a victim who was pursuing Cardenas-Tacuri after the suspect had been observed going through unlocked vehicles in the victim’s driveway in the City of Danbury, the sheriff's office said.
During a search, officers found Cardenas-Tacuri was in possession of stolen items taken from several vehicles, in addition to a switchblade knife.
He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of stolen property and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,000 bail.
All area jurisdictions where property has been stolen were contacted and will be pursuing additional charges against Cardenas-Tacuri, the sheriff's office said.
